How to rehumanize recruitment in the digital era?

In the midst of digital transformation, companies that humanize recruitment are better positioned to retain their top talent.

Are we losing talent by overlooking the most human aspect of recruitment?

The way companies treat their candidates could define their future success.

The treatment of candidates from the very first contact can determine whether an organization attracts or loses talent. In a context of an aging workforce, labor shortages, and accelerated digital transformation, ManpowerGroup presented its analysis Rehumanizing the Candidate Experience, framing recruitment as a strategic factor for sustainable talent management.

Recruitment Alert

The report warns that many organizations, in their drive to reduce costs and automate processes, have neglected the human dimension of recruitment, eroding trust from the very first interaction with the employer brand. In a market where talent is scarce, losing up to 30% of candidates during the selection process has become a strategic warning signal.

Javier Echeverri, President of ManpowerGroup Colombia, emphasizes:

“Candidate experience is not a secondary aspect of the recruitment process; it is the starting point of the employment relationship. In an environment where 74% of employers face talent shortages, every interaction matters. How we treat a person during the process determines not only whether they accept an offer, but also whether they trust, recommend, and remain with the organization.”

Rising Global Dissatisfaction

The study shows that candidate dissatisfaction is increasing worldwide. Research such as the Candidate Experience Benchmark indicates that lack of communication, prolonged processes, and the absence of timely feedback are the main drivers of discontent, directly affecting employer brand reputation and hiring quality.

While artificial intelligence and automation will continue to expand within recruitment processes, the report stresses that technology should free up time for higher-value tasks—such as personalized interaction and deep skills assessment—rather than replace oversight, empathy, or human judgment.

According to Echeverri:

“Rehumanizing the candidate experience does not mean halting digital transformation. It means integrating technology with purpose. AI can accelerate processes, but only people can build trust, interpret nuances, and create connections that translate into engagement and retention.”

Organizations that achieve the best results in candidate experience share several best practices: early and transparent communication, agile response times, alignment between employer brand and process reality, and seamless integration between the candidate and employee experience, particularly during onboarding.

Strategic Retention and Loyalty

ManpowerGroup’s analysis also reveals that 39% of workers globally—and 52% of Generation Z—are considering changing jobs within the next six months, reinforcing the urgency of building strong employment relationships from the outset.

For the consultancy, the message is clear: in a strained labor market, candidate experience is no longer merely a reputational factor; it becomes a strategic differentiator. Echeverri concludes:

“The future of work will be hybrid, digital, and dynamic, but it will remain profoundly human. Organizations that understand recruitment as an experience, not just a procedure, will be better equipped to attract, engage, and retain the talent they need to grow.”
