Equinix expands Brazil data infrastructure with SP6

Can a new digital infrastructure reshape the speed at which cities and companies advance in Latin America?
Brazil is adding a new data center aimed at meeting rising demand for artificial intelligence and global connectivity.
In a world where every click, transaction, and application depends on an invisible infrastructure, being connected is no longer a luxury but a daily expectation. Behind this instant digital experience, physical spaces are being built to enable data to move, be processed, and sustain modern life with increasing precision.
Against this backdrop, Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX) announced the launch of SP6, its new data center in the São Paulo metropolitan area. Located in Santana de Parnaíba, the project involved an investment of US$114 million and was designed to support the digital evolution of businesses while reinforcing Brazil’s role as a significant innovation hub in the region.
Infrastructure expansion.
The launch comes amid the company’s global expansion, which now exceeds 280 data centers across 77 markets and more than 500,000 interconnections within its ecosystem. In Brazil, Equinix maintains a consolidated presence with nine operational facilities: six in São Paulo and three in Rio de Janeiro, alongside ongoing projects that support its continued growth in the country.
The campus hosting SP6 also includes plans for future developments, including the SP7 project, as well as areas designated for the construction of two additional data centers.
This expansion aligns with Brazil’s ambition to move from being one of the leading data infrastructure hubs in Latin America to achieving greater relevance on a global scale. Over the past decade, the company has invested an average of approximately R$1 billion per year in the country, including initiatives such as the expansion in Rio de Janeiro with the RJ3 data center and the expansion of SP4 in São Paulo.
Brazil as a digital hub.

In addition, we are providing infrastructure ready for Liquid Cooling applications and positioned to capture the opportunities generated by the AI revolution, enabling our customers to process large volumes of data with low-latency connectivity.”
The country’s growth outlook is supported by structural factors such as its energy mix, international connectivity, and a maturing business ecosystem. Against this backdrop, Brazil is emerging as a relevant destination for high-density workloads such as artificial intelligence, while continuing to expand its digital infrastructure footprint.
AI-driven strategy.

In terms of sustainability, SP6 was developed in line with high standards of energy efficiency and responsible resource management. Equinix maintains its global goal of operating on 100% clean and renewable energy by 2030, with current progress at 96% worldwide.
In Brazil, operations already run on 100% renewable energy, reinforcing the country’s role within the company’s environmental strategy.
The company is also investing in renewable energy initiatives, including its partnership with Auren Energia, which aims to ensure a more stable and predictable supply to support the growth of digital infrastructure. This enables the operation of intensive workloads such as artificial intelligence and high-density data processing.
SP6 also incorporates efficient cooling systems that eliminate the need for evaporative technologies, significantly reducing water consumption.
According to the company, this approach aligns with its global practices, which in 2024 recorded an average Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) index of 0.95. In the data center’s operations, water use is limited to human needs (WUE = 0), as part of its responsible resource management approach.
