Equinix empowers Hyundai’s cloud for connected vehicles

Equinix has implemented Hyundai Motor Group’s private cloud platform, HCloud, across Equinix data centers globally, with the goal of enhancing service quality and customer experience for over 10 million subscribers of connected car services.
This collaboration aims to optimize real-time data processing and ensure more stable connectivity with lower latency for Hyundai’s users worldwide.
HCloud Platform and Expansion.
HCloud is Hyundai’s private cloud platform, developed in response to the growing demand for connected and autonomous vehicles. Through its hybrid multicloud architecture, Hyundai is leveraging Equinix International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data centers in regions including Asia, the United States, and Europe.
In addition to using Equinix Fabric® to interconnect HCloud with public cloud providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS), this strategy accelerates the global expansion of connected car services, ensuring reliable connectivity, consistent coverage, and lower latency.
Youngjoo Han, Vice President and Head of the IT Infrastructure Center at Hyundai Motor Group, shares details on the process:
”By leveraging Equinix’s global data centers, we are providing high-quality connected car services and improving the user experience by reducing latency, ensuring stable global connectivity, and enhancing the scalability of our HCloud platform. Our partnership with Equinix brings us one step closer to becoming the global leader in connected car services. We look forward to continuing this journey with Equinix to maintain the momentum of our growing global connected car ecosystem.”
Expansion and Subscriber Goals.
The Group, which includes Hyundai Motor, Kia, and Genesis brands, has been expanding its Connected Services (CCS) ecosystem, offering entertainment and mobile applications within the vehicle via wireless networks.
Since its launch in 2003, Hyundai has accumulated over 10 million global CCS subscribers and aims to reach 20 million by 2026. To drive this growth, the Group has made significant investments in expanding HCloud, aiming to offer a more personalized driving experience and enhanced services for users.
Proximity and Optimized Performance.
With projections that 95% of new vehicles will be connected by 2030, Hyundai has recognized the need for distributed data processing and infrastructure near cloud and network ecosystems.
To meet these needs, the Group has strategically selected Equinix IBX data centers in Seoul, Los Angeles, and Frankfurt. These centers were chosen for their global reach, operator density, and high operational standards, backed by Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Equinix’s proximity to major cloud and network providers allows Hyundai to connect with key partners and support robust performance and scalability of its services.
Through this collaboration, Hyundai has improved the responsiveness of its applications and the quality of its remote services, which in turn supports the transition to software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and lays the foundation for smarter, safer, and more connected mobility solutions.
Finally, Chris Jang, Managing Director of Equinix Korea, states:
”The future of the automotive industry lies in connected vehicles. Through a hybrid multicloud infrastructure, car manufacturers can leverage cloud services while maintaining the flexibility to choose between secure and dedicated colocation infrastructure or highly scalable cloud services for each workload they support. Equinix, with its global presence, provides not only the necessary infrastructure but also an interconnected digital ecosystem and network-dense infrastructure. This enables companies like Hyundai Motor to accelerate their digital transformation and optimize the customer experience.”
