NASA JPL migrates critical systems to OpenShift

Organizations with mission-critical operations continue moving toward hybrid and automated environments to manage critical infrastructure.
NASA’s JPL adopted Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization as part of its technology strategy to support complex workloads.
Red Hat announced that NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) migrated to Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization for its mission-critical technology infrastructure. The implementation is aimed at managing virtual machine workloads within a high-performance environment designed for future container-based applications.
The platform combines hybrid cloud, automation and virtualization capabilities within a unified environment. According to the company, this allows organizations to manage virtualized workloads using cloud-native tools and streamline integrated IT operations.
Operational automation.
The implemented model incorporates tools such as pipelines for the creation and management of virtual machines, with the goal of accelerating operational processes and supporting new space exploration and complex processing demands.
Security and compliance.
Red Hat also said OpenShift includes enterprise security features for virtualized environments, including network policies, role-based access controls and automatic SELinux security contexts.
The platform is complemented by tools for compliance and Kubernetes cluster protection.
