OpenShift from Red Hat integrates into Hitachi Vantara’s hybrid cloud

A new approach aims to reduce costs, break dependencies, and give IT departments under pressure the breathing room they need to modernize.


In a context where technology decisions heavily impact both budgets and day-to-day operations, many organizations are seeking technological alternatives that restore control and flexibility. Against this backdrop, Hitachi Vantara announced a new solution integrating Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization with its Virtual Storage Platform One (VSP One), designed to simplify and modernize hybrid cloud environments.

Hitachi Vantara, a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., specializing in data storage, infrastructure, and hybrid cloud management, introduced this integrated platform as a solution to reduce reliance on costly, proprietary hypervisors while providing a unified operational foundation.

The goal is to facilitate the modernization of legacy virtualization environments while maintaining enterprise-grade resilience and performance.

Pressure to Modernize.

The announcement comes at a time marked by rising costs, reduced technological flexibility, and increasing pressure on companies to upgrade their infrastructures.

According to a recent survey, the complexity of licensing and price increases have made routine maintenance an expensive undertaking: nearly three-quarters (73%) of audited companies reported this issue, and more than one-third identified compliance — including managing license overages — as their top challenge.

To address this scenario, Hitachi Vantara’s solution integrates Red Hat OpenShift, including OpenShift Virtualization, along with a pre-validated architecture and a virtualization tool designed to simplify and accelerate the transition from legacy platforms.

Continuity and Resilience.

The VSP One platform incorporates multi-site resilience capabilities and failover migration features, supporting operational continuity during disruptions.

It also allows virtual machines and containers to run in parallel on the same infrastructure, reducing the need for separate virtualization platforms and preventing duplicate environments. This translates into lower costs associated with hardware, software licenses, and operations.

Additionally, it offers a unified storage solution covering blocks, files, and objects across both on-premises and cloud systems. This feature aims to enhance data visibility and provide a consistent experience regardless of where the data resides.

This announcement builds on recent advances in the partnership between Hitachi Vantara and Red Hat. Earlier this year, the companies introduced an update to the Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization migration toolkit, which added storage offload functionality for cold migrations, powered by VSP One.
