Geely brings GEA-based electric vehicle production to South America

Geely’s industrial expansion in Latin America enters a new phase with local production in Brazil and the addition of an electric model to the Curitiba plant.
The start of local production in Brazil marks a new stage for Geely in Latin America, with production of the EX5 EM-i Super Hybrid and the planned addition of the EX2 starting in December 2026.
The company officially began vehicle production in Brazil with the first Geely EX5 EM-i Super Hybrid unit rolling off the assembly line at the Ayrton Senna Industrial Complex in Curitiba.
The start of operations is the result of the strategic alliance between Geely and Renault Group, established in November 2025 to accelerate the development of the brand and localize production of new automotive technologies in South America.
The EX2 will enter production in December 2026.
Production of the Geely EX2, a 100% electric hatchback developed on the GEA (Global Intelligent Electric Architecture) architecture and currently part of Geely’s portfolio in Colombia, will begin at the same plant in December 2026.
“We are seeing significant growth for Geely in Latin America. Production in Brazil strengthens the company’s capabilities in the region and brings new-energy technologies closer to South American markets. In addition, the fact that the Geely EX2 is one of the first models selected for this new industrial phase demonstrates the role this product is taking on within Geely’s global strategy,” said Diego Zárate, General Manager of Geely Colombia.
The plant will incorporate different powertrain systems.
The Ayrton Senna Industrial Complex was modernized to incorporate Geely’s GEA architecture and has the capacity to manufacture vehicles with different powertrain systems, from combustion engines and flex-fuel hybrid technologies to fully electric models.
The first model to enter production was the Geely EX5 EM-i Super Hybrid, whose commercial launch in Brazil is scheduled before the end of 2026. Starting in December, the Geely EX2 will join it, expanding the complex’s electric vehicle manufacturing capacity.
The announcement comes as the Geely EX2 experiences growth globally. In August, the model reached a new monthly record with 60,955 units sold, becoming one of the key contributors to Geely’s performance in new-energy vehicles.
The EX2 is already part of Colombia’s electric vehicle lineup.
In Colombia, the Geely EX2 is part of Geely’s 100% electric lineup alongside the EX5, while the Starray EM-i complements the portfolio with plug-in hybrid technology.
“Electrification requires much more than vehicles. It requires investment, industrial capacity, technological development and a structure capable of supporting demand growth. The expansion of these capabilities in Latin America is a sign of the path Geely is building in the region for the long term,” Zárate added.
In practice, Geely is adding regional production capacity to a strategy that until now had grown mainly through the expansion of its portfolio and commercial presence.
The addition of the Geely EX2 to the plant in December will be the next step in this process, bringing one of the electric vehicles the company currently sells in Colombia into South American production for the first time.
