Data recovery gap persists despite investment in cyber resilience

Recovering data after a cyberattack remains one of the biggest challenges facing organizations despite growing investment in cyber resilience.

Veeam has introduced a new version of its data resilience platform with expanded capabilities designed to strengthen recovery, security and business continuity.


Although 90% of organizations believe they can recover from a cyber incident, fewer than one in three ransomware victims fully restored their data, highlighting one of the biggest gaps in business continuity and cyber resilience strategies.

Against this backdrop, Veeam Data Platform v13.1 introduces new data protection, recovery and security capabilities designed to strengthen data resilience and support artificial intelligence initiatives.

The latest release is intended to reduce operational fragmentation, a common challenge in which disconnected tools and siloed teams create manual processes and blind spots during recovery efforts.

In practice, integrating resilience and security helps reduce tool sprawl while improving preparedness for cyber incidents.

Expanded hypervisor support.

The update adds support for six additional hypervisors: Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization, Sangfor aSV, XCP-ng, Citrix XenServer, VergeIO and Platform9.

This expands platform compatibility to 14 hypervisors, with further support planned through the Universal Hypervisor API to address infrastructure modernization and the evolving virtualization market.

The platform also extends protection for EPIC EHR, IBM Db2 for Windows and Oracle while introducing a backup repository for custom applications.

These capabilities allow organizations to consolidate critical workloads on a single platform, unifying security controls, reporting and recovery processes for industries including healthcare and financial services.

Security and recovery.

Security enhancements include malware scanning for NAS environments, expanded threat detection for Microsoft Azure, Active Directory Forest Recovery to accelerate identity restoration after cyber incidents, alignment with NIST post-quantum cryptography standards and support for hybrid FIPS environments.

The platform also validates restore points before recovery, helping organizations recover clean and trusted data.

The release also introduces enhancements for NAS environments designed to optimize long-term backup retention across AWS S3 Glacier, Azure Archive and other file storage systems, reducing storage requirements without compromising compliance or recovery capabilities.

These enhancements are designed to validate restore points, reduce cyber risk exposure and simplify compliance across hybrid environments.
