Organizations face rising risks from AI-driven access attacks

Artificial intelligence is accelerating attacks against enterprise access systems and increasing risks to organizations’ digital security. The rise of these threats is forcing companies to strengthen authentication and protection mechanisms across electronic security infrastructures.
According to Genetec, AI-based tools are enabling access- and authentication-related attacks to become faster, more precise, and harder to detect. This includes identity impersonation, social engineering campaigns, and automated large-scale vulnerability discovery.
Risks in connected systems.
The risk particularly affects organizations operating connected cameras, access control systems, servers, and cloud services, where weak or poorly managed access credentials can become entry points into critical systems.
Genetec warns that this scenario also involves passwords used to directly access electronic security devices, which are often left outside broader security strategies.
Mathieu Chevalier, Principal Security Architect at Genetec, said:
“AI is changing the speed and scale of cyber risk. Attackers can now move faster and are using AI to impersonate identities, personalize social engineering attacks, discover vulnerabilities at scale, and evade detection. To respond to this, organizations must actively manage access and identity across all their systems, not just establish controls once and expect them to work”.
Increase in digital attacks.
The company also cited data from its research report Enterprise-grade electronic security in the cloud era, based on data from more than 7,300 electronic security professionals.
The study found that 58.7% of organizations reported an increase in phishing and smishing attacks, while 41% indicated a broader rise in physical and cyber incidents.
Among the recommendations, the company suggests eliminating default and shared credentials, implementing multifactor authentication, and adopting stronger authentication methods such as passkeys and certificate-based authentication.
Governance and digital protection.
The company also recommends strengthening integration between IT and electronic security teams to improve visibility into access-related risks and respond more quickly to credential-related incidents.
It also argues that electronic security systems should be managed under governance frameworks similar to those used for other critical infrastructures, including periodic access reviews, controlled updates, and continuous vulnerability monitoring.
According to Genetec, the growing connection between physical systems and digital environments is pushing organizations to reassess their identity management and access protection strategies against AI-driven automated threats.
