Are all AI-powered laptops equally capable?

The answer is not as obvious as it seems and can completely reshape your everyday experience with technology.

We are living through a turning point in which artificial intelligence has moved beyond being an additional feature to become the driving force behind how we use our laptops.
Today, it enables users to do more at the same time and with fewer interruptions: improving video calls while working across multiple documents, editing content while running other applications, or gaming more smoothly without compromising overall performance.

The broader context makes this clear. According to the Latin American Artificial Intelligence Index (ILIA), developed by Chile’s National Center for Artificial Intelligence (CENIA) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Colombia ranked 4th among 19 evaluated countries and is part of the group of “adopter” nations.

This scenario reflects something deeper: artificial intelligence is no longer a promise, but an expanding reality. And as its adoption grows, so do expectations about how it should perform: fast, seamless, and friction-free.

However, amid this growing adoption, there is a key difference that often goes unnoticed: not all PCs execute AI in the same way. And this directly impacts the user experience.

Cloud processing.

For a long time, this execution was almost entirely tied to cloud-based AI, where each interaction required sending information to external servers, processing it, and receiving a response.
While this model remains essential, it also has limitations in terms of speed, continuity, and reliance on connectivity.

Today, we are moving toward a more balanced approach, where part of that processing happens directly on the device. This distinction—between AI that depends on the cloud and AI that also runs locally—explains why not all PCs perform the same way: two systems may both “have AI,” but not deliver the same experience.

On-device experience.

In everyday use, that difference becomes evident. With integrated AI, many tasks are executed directly, as it is designed to deliver faster responses, greater fluidity, and more stable performance, even without an internet connection.

In addition, it optimizes system resources, which can not only improve overall performance but also positively impact battery efficiency and extend battery life.

Ultimately, the difference is not whether a laptop has artificial intelligence, but how it executes it to enhance everything you need to do. This is where technology stops being just a tool and becomes a true everyday ally.
