3 key strategies for AI to enhance gaming experiences.
How can we, as developers, designers, and storytellers, use AI responsibly? How do we build games that remain authentic and exciting, avoiding shortcuts that ultimately push players away?
The good news is that this is not unfamiliar territory. Every new technology has forced us to rethink how games are designed, experienced, and shared, and to choose between short-term solutions or long-term value creation. The same applies to AI.
That is why using AI thoughtfully is essential. These three recommendations can guide us toward creating stronger, more enjoyable gaming experiences.
1) Create experiences that surprise and delight the player.
The best games are those that surprise players in meaningful ways. Neuroscience shows that surprise strengthens memory: our brains are wired to retain moments of unexpected delight.
AI is a powerful tool for generating these moments in ways that would be impossible through human design alone, adapting them to each player’s style, decisions, and behavior.
Instead of limiting the experience to one or two impactful moments for an entire audience, AI enables a wide range of unique surprises. This allows both casual players and completionists to experience journeys that feel truly personal, keeping each playthrough fresh and memorable.
