TCS and ABB sign agreement to advance industrial AI

The memorandum between both companies aims to accelerate IT infrastructure modernization, smart factories, and the development of advanced digital solutions.

The next generation of smart factories may be closer than it seems.

A new collaboration between two global leaders aims to bring automation and artificial intelligence to an unprecedented industrial scale.

The sound of machines, continuously running systems, and the pressure to avoid even a single second of failure define the rhythm of modern industry. In this environment—where efficiency can determine the survival of global operations—two companies are seeking to change the rules of the game.

Tata Consultancy Services announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ABB to strengthen their strategic partnership across IT infrastructure and applications, digital and industrial AI initiatives, data centers, and other emerging technologies.

The agreement reflects a shared commitment to driving innovation, operational resilience, and sustainable growth through a long-term partnership.

Scope of the agreement.

As part of the memorandum, both companies will integrate ABB’s capabilities in electrification and automation with TCS’s global scale and technology delivery expertise across three main areas of collaboration.

First, they will work on IT infrastructure and application transformation, aiming to build a more agile, secure, resilient, and cost-optimized technology foundation aligned with ABB’s operating model and focused on efficiency and continuous improvement.

AI and modernization.

Second, they will drive AI and smart factory modernization initiatives, including industrial AI projects, digital twins, vision-based inspection, and the convergence of operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT).

Third, they will explore AI infrastructure development opportunities related to electrification, automation, and digital and software domains, stemming from TCS’s planned AI infrastructure development activities in India and other regions worldwide.

ABB’s vision.

From ABB’s perspective, the agreement represents an opportunity to accelerate its technological evolution in increasingly complex environments. Morten Wierod, CEO of ABB, stated:

”Partnering with TCS helps ABB build smarter systems, adapt more quickly, and scale our innovations globally. This collaboration strengthens our position to support the expansion of digital infrastructure, including data centers, across different regions of the world.”

For TCS, the vision focuses on creating a new AI-driven model of industrial innovation. K. Krithivasan, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tata Consultancy Services, commented:

”This partnership reflects our shared ambition to go beyond incremental transformation and shape the next era of industrial enterprises. By combining ABB’s leadership in electrification and automation with TCS’s technical expertise in AI, data, and engineering, we aim to co-create intelligent, resilient, and future-ready industrial solutions at scale. Together, we are not only modernizing technology environments, but also driving a new model of AI-based industrial innovation that delivers shared value across our global operations.”
