China reshapes auto industry at Beijing 2026

The 2026 Beijing Auto Show brings together more than 1,000 exhibitors and underscores China’s leadership, with 34.5 million vehicles produced over the past year.

What happens when the world’s largest auto show stops looking toward the West?

In Beijing, the future of mobility is no longer presented—it is asserted.

Amid vast exhibition halls, intense lighting, and the constant hum of technology presentations, visitors to the 2026 Beijing Auto Show are met with the overwhelming sense of stepping into an industry that has already shifted into a new era without asking permission. There, global mobility is being reordered before their eyes.

For decades, the automotive story has been told through three major centers: Detroit’s industrial drive, Wolfsburg’s engineering precision, and Tokyo’s technological efficiency. Today, that geography of innovation has added a new epicenter.

Scale of the event.

The 18th edition of the Beijing Auto Show spans an impossible-to-ignore scale: 380,000 square meters distributed between the Shunyi Hall and the Capital International Exhibition Center. More than 1,000 exhibitors from around the world are participating in a trade fair that, rather than simply showcasing the future, demonstrates how China is currently setting the pace of the industry.

The figures reinforce that position. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), the country closed last year with a record production of 34.5 million vehicles, marking 17 consecutive years as the global leader in the sector.

China’s technological dominance.

The impact extends beyond production. China exports more than 8.3 million units annually, while new energy vehicles (NEVs) account for nearly 50% of its domestic market. Beijing is thus consolidating itself as the arena where both the continuity of the traditional automotive industry and its technological transition are being redefined.

Within this context, one of the most closely watched pavilions is Zeekr, a luxury brand officially represented and distributed by Astara in Colombia. Its portfolio includes models such as the Zeekr X, 001, 7X, 7GT, and the 9X, a full-size SUV.

Zeekr drives innovation.

However, attention is largely focused on the new Zeekr 8X. It is the event’s headline debut and a statement of technological escalation within the segment. Its 900V architecture enables a range recovery of 400 kilometers in just 9 minutes, significantly reducing charging times.

It features a 6C battery and a plug-in hybrid system with a high-efficiency internal combustion engine, along with a tri-motor configuration delivering up to 1,030 kW, equivalent to 1,381 horsepower. This positions it as an SSUV (Super SUV) with performance levels approaching those of a hypercar.

The 2026 Beijing Auto Show delivers a clear reading: the automotive industry is moving forward without waiting for its traditional reference centers. China is consolidating its role as a global innovation laboratory. In this scenario, the silence of electric motors becomes one of its most powerful expressions.
