Vertiv integrates ThermoKey to boost AI cooling solutions

The acquisition strengthens Vertiv’s thermal infrastructure, offering integrated liquid and air cooling solutions across EMEA.

 


Who will win the race to cool artificial intelligence?

A new agreement aims to tackle one of the greatest challenges of the digital era.


At a time when the expansion of artificial intelligence demands increasingly sophisticated infrastructure, the ability to cool high-performance systems has become a critical challenge. In this context, Vertiv announced an agreement to acquire ThermoKey S.p.A., a company specialized in heat rejection and thermal exchange technologies.

The transaction, still subject to regulatory approvals and expected to close in the second quarter of 2026, is part of Vertiv’s strategy to strengthen its cooling solutions for high-density data centers and AI environments.
With this acquisition, the company aims to expand its portfolio, enhance its manufacturing capabilities—particularly in the EMEA region—and advance its goal of delivering integrated solutions across the entire thermal chain.

Thermal expertise and technology.

Founded in 1991 and headquartered in Italy, ThermoKey brings over three decades of experience in designing and manufacturing heat exchangers for demanding applications, including data centers. Its portfolio includes technologies such as dry coolers and microchannel solutions, enabling optimized thermal performance based on site conditions and growth requirements.

This acquisition is expected to expand the options available to our customers as they adopt more efficient cooling strategies and build infrastructure designed to anticipate rapidly evolving computing demands.”

Expanded converged infrastructure.

The integration also aims to reinforce Vertiv’s converged infrastructure strategy by expanding the range of thermal technologies available and enhancing the ability to support system-level integrated architectures.

Its engineering capabilities, use of low-GWP and natural refrigerants, and experience in data center and process cooling environments position ThermoKey as a strong complement to this approach.

In addition, ThermoKey’s internal design and production capabilities, along with its offering of air-cooled condensers and liquid cooling systems, are expected to strengthen Vertiv’s thermal technology base and operational flexibility.
The Italian company’s production capacity would also help meet the growing demand for thermal infrastructure in next-generation data centers.

Customer benefits.

For customers, the acquisition is expected to provide greater support for efficient cooling in AI applications, improved system integration within the thermal infrastructure, and the ability to optimize heat rejection as a unified chain. It also anticipates broader access in EMEA to advanced dry cooling and thermal exchange technologies, along with more agile engineering and manufacturing support for large-scale deployments.
