New MCDU-70 ensures scalable cooling for AI workloads

How far can artificial intelligence go if its “brain” doesn’t overheat?
A new cooling solution promises to keep next-generation GPUs running without interruptions.
How far can artificial intelligence go if its “brain” doesn’t overheat? Motivair by Schneider Electric has introduced the MCDU-70, the company’s highest-capacity Cooling Distribution Unit (CDU), designed to keep high-density GPUs—powering data centers and gigawatt-scale AI factories—cool and operational.
In the era of AI, extreme heat can limit performance. The MCDU-70 delivers 2.5 MW of liquid cooling, with the ability to scale beyond 10 MW, making it a flexible solution for the demanding requirements of HPC, AI, and accelerated computing.
Performance and Reliability.
Rich Whitmore, CEO of Motivair by Schneider Electric, states:
“AI is not slowing down. Our solutions are designed to keep pace with the evolution of chips and silicon, delivering next-generation performance when it is needed most.”
Each unit can be integrated into larger systems, such as deployments requiring up to 10 MW, offering redundancy and readiness for future GPU generations. GPUs are estimated to generate 20 to 50 times more heat than traditional CPUs, making liquid cooling a critical element to maintain efficiency in next-generation data centers.
Integration and Control.
The MCDU-70 integrates with Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure software, enabling centralized cooling control and precise energy flow monitoring.
With a modular and scalable design, operators can adjust their infrastructure to meet AI workload demands without compromising efficiency or reliability.
Key Features.
Capacity and Efficiency: Dual heat exchangers and parallel filtration minimize system pressure drop while maintaining a flow rate of 1.5 LPM per kW.
Performance and Reliability: Each unit undergoes real-world testing using digital twin simulations and end-of-line validation, with global expert support ensuring continuous operation.
Designed to Scale: Part of a modular CDU portfolio, allowing operators to select the model that best fits their AI deployment needs.
Motivair’s complete CDU range, from 105 kW to 2.5 MW, enables advanced thermal management with flow control, real-time monitoring, and adaptive load balancing, optimizing both performance and energy consumption in data centers.
With global availability through manufacturing centers in North America, Europe, and Asia, the MCDU-70 represents a significant step toward more scalable, reliable, and AI-ready data centers.
