UN highlights TCS’s ReScore App for green marketing

Can an app transform the way we experience sports while protecting the planet at the same time?
A technology company is proving that marketing can be far more than advertising—it can become a real force for sustainable change.
At a time when environmental challenges demand tangible solutions, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been acknowledged for its innovative approach to embedding sustainability at the core of its marketing strategy.
Its initiative, ReScore—a cloud-based application that measures and reduces the environmental impact of sporting events—was spotlighted as a best-practice case study in the “CMO Blueprint for Sustainable Growth” report led by the UN Global Compact.
The report, which gathered insights from Chief Marketing Officers (CMOs) across multiple sectors, identifies ten practical cases where brands have actively contributed to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Among them, ReScore stands out as a concrete tool enabling sports event organizers to plan more responsibly, assess their ecological footprint, and improve practices year over year.
Abhinav Kumar, Chief Marketing Officer at TCS, stated:
“We are extremely proud to be featured in this report, which highlights the vital role of marketing, communications, media, brand strategy, and innovation in driving sustainable growth. This recognition reflects our commitment to enabling positive change through innovative solutions like ReScore. It’s true that CMOs are uniquely positioned to champion social change. Marketing leaders can reshape perceptions, influence behavior, and prioritize long-term community value without losing sight of business objectives. At TCS, we believe marketing is a powerful force for good, and we remain dedicated to advancing our journey toward a more sustainable future.”
Purpose-driven innovation.
ReScore was developed by TCS in collaboration with the Council for Responsible Sport, as part of its corporate social responsibility program Sadhana Samarpan, whose message is clear: “One habitable planet, no Plan B.”
This vision drives both collective and individual action, aligning with eight of the SDGs. Since its launch, the app has delivered tangible results.
In just two years, 53 events and organizations have been certified by the Council for Responsible Sport for their sustainable practices supported by ReScore.
Among them is the 2025 TCS London Marathon, where medals are made from recycled zinc alloy, and participants can opt to plant a tree instead of receiving a race shirt.
Other events such as the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon and the Chicago Marathon have significantly reduced waste and energy consumption, earning the Evergreen Certification—the highest standard in sustainable sport.
Anupam Singhal, President of Manufacturing at TCS, noted:
“ReScore’s inclusion in the UN Global Compact’s *CMO Blueprint for Sustainable Growth* is a significant acknowledgment of our commitment to sustainability through purpose-driven innovation. ReScore is more than a digital solution—it reflects TCS’s belief in marketing and technology as forces for social good. It’s our way of contributing to more responsible, transparent, and future-ready communities, in the true spirit of Sadhana Samarpan (dedication and devotion).”
Marketing that drives change.
The study also highlights a broader shift in corporate leadership: while 91% of CEOs believe that protecting communities is part of their responsibility, many face challenges in taking direct action.
As a result, the role of CMOs is becoming increasingly crucial. The expectation is clear—move from storytelling to storydoing, and turn intent into measurable action.
Within this context, TCS’s sponsorship of more than 14 global running events serves not just as a visibility strategy, but as a means to actively support local communities and promote environmental accountability in a sector with significant social and economic impact.
Measurable results and long-term commitment.
Beyond sports, TCS upholds a broader corporate commitment to the environment.
In fiscal year 2025 alone, the company achieved an 84% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions compared to 2016, increased its use of renewable energy 23-fold, and earned Zero Waste to Landfill certifications at eight of its campuses.
Today, 94% of its organic waste is processed internally. With initiatives like ReScore, TCS demonstrates that sustainability is not an added value—it is a cross-cutting responsibility that must be integrated from marketing to technology, and embedded in every strategic decision that affects the planet.
