Peru develops a 20 MW data center for regional demand

How is Latin America preparing to support the surge in digital services and artificial intelligence?
A new data center in Peru offers clues about the future of the region’s technological infrastructure.
Digital transformation in Latin America is not just a technological trend—it is an urgent necessity shaping the daily lives of millions. From banking transactions to online healthcare and education services, the digital economy increasingly depends on invisible yet critical infrastructure.
In this context, the development of data centers is emerging as a key enabler for sectors such as banking, retail, healthcare, education, and digital services.
One example is the Gtd Peru Data Center, located in Lurín, which illustrates how the region is moving toward more efficient, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure models.
Expansion and capacity.
The project began with an initial investment of USD 13 million in its first phase, which includes 2 MW of operational capacity. It is part of a modular expansion plan structured in four phases, with the goal of reaching a total capacity of 20 MW within a facility exceeding 10,000 m². Such developments respond to the growing demand for digital services and the need to support new workloads, including artificial intelligence and cloud computing.
One of the project’s core pillars is its focus on sustainability. The infrastructure integrates technological solutions ranging from medium- and low-voltage electrical systems to power distribution, UPS, racks, and high-availability cooling systems.
These implementations can reduce cooling requirements by up to 30%, extend equipment lifespan, and lower carbon emissions, aligning with the region’s current environmental priorities.
Certification and resilience.
Thanks to these features, the data center achieved Tier III certification, a standard that ensures high levels of availability and operational resilience for critical environments across multiple industries.

Projects like this demonstrate how Latin America is advancing toward a more robust digital infrastructure, ready to meet current challenges.”
Efficiency and monitoring.
The data center incorporates real-time monitoring and management tools that enable centralized supervision, reporting, and automated fault response, facilitating decision-making and strengthening operational continuity.
At the same time, the project addresses one of the industry’s main challenges: energy consumption in cooling systems, which can account for nearly 40% of a data center’s total usage. Through high-capacity cooling system design, a 28% increase in energy efficiency was achieved within the same footprint, optimizing resource use and reducing operational costs.
Additionally, a three-phase UPS system designed for critical environments was integrated, capable of reaching energy efficiency levels of up to 99%. This technology allows module replacement without interrupting operations, which is essential to ensuring continuity in high-demand environments.
As demand for digital services continues to grow across Latin America, the region is moving toward a model where energy efficiency, resilience, and sustainability are no longer differentiators but requirements.
