Tata and OpenAI chart a new course for AI in India
Could India become a global artificial intelligence hub?
A strategic alliance between the Tata Group and OpenAI seeks to transform industries and equip millions of young people with AI skills.
Thousands of employees, entire industries, and young learners could see their access to and use of artificial intelligence transformed through a strategic partnership between the Tata Group, its subsidiary Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and OpenAI.
The collaboration aims to accelerate innovation, develop advanced infrastructure, and promote social development through AI.
Empowering Employees.
Key aspects of the alliance:
1) Empowering Tata Group employees with Enterprise ChatGPT.
Several thousand Tata Group employees will have access to Enterprise ChatGPT, a tool designed to boost productivity and accelerate innovation. Additionally, TCS will leverage OpenAI’s Codex to enhance outcomes in software engineering.
2) Developing industry-specific agentic AI solutions.
OpenAI and TCS will combine their capabilities to create AI solutions tailored to specific industries. The integration of TCS’s contextual expertise and OpenAI’s agentic AI solutions will enable the development of high-impact products across diverse sectors.
3) Joint go-to-market (GTM) initiatives.
The alliance will allow companies in India and globally to adopt AI solutions tailored to their organizational context. TCS will support its clients in deploying, integrating, and scaling OpenAI’s advanced platforms to accelerate digital transformation.
4) AI infrastructure development.
TCS and OpenAI will collaborate through the HyperVault unit to build AI infrastructure in India. Initially, 100 MW of capacity will be deployed, with the option to scale up to 1 GW, positioning the country as a global center for next-generation AI workloads.
5) Social impact.
The OpenAI Foundation and TCS will work together to train young people in India, providing resources and educational programs to enable responsible AI usage. Technology kits will be developed for NGOs, and initiatives will target improving the livelihoods of at least one million young people.

TCS established HyperVault in 2025 with a vision to provide secure, reliable, and large-scale infrastructure prepared for AI, with gigawatt-level capacity for hyperscalers and AI-driven organizations.
The infrastructure will be powered by green energy and will feature data centers specifically designed for liquid cooling, high rack density, and connectivity across key cloud regions.
This alliance reinforces India’s strategy to become a global AI leader, creating an ecosystem that accelerates the adoption and development of advanced AI technologies while generating social and economic impact.
