AI-Generated misinformation concerns 75% of people

Seventy-five percent of people fear AI-generated misinformation, a growing ethical and social challenge in the digital age.

While a significant majority of people are willing to use artificial intelligence (AI), the full adoption of this technology still faces significant challenges related to trust, autonomy, and ethics.

This is revealed by the EY AI Sentiment Index, a global study showing that, while 82% of respondents are willing to use AI, only 57% have fully adopted it.

Factors Hindering Adoption.

The report points out that the public’s concern is not focused on the technology itself, but rather on the risks associated with its use.

These include the loss of autonomy, unauthorized use of personal data, and information manipulation.

To close this adoption gap, the study proposes that organizations act on three strategic fronts:

  • Build trust through transparency and ethics.
    • Empower individuals to use AI on their own terms.
    • Present the technology as a tool that enhances human talent, not as its replacement.

The report highlights that:

“Success in AI adoption will not come to those who impose its use, but to those who design environments where technology amplifies human capabilities.”

Concerns and Benefits.

The study also reveals that 75% of participants fear AI-generated misinformation.

In addition, 64% express concern about the unauthorized use of their personal information.

However, people also recognize clear benefits in the implementation of artificial intelligence.

Among them are improvements in quality of life, support in financial decisions, access to medical diagnostics, and service personalization.

In light of this scenario, future leadership will need to balance enthusiasm for innovation with a proactive approach to addressing the legitimate concerns of citizens.

AI Enhances Human Skills.

Far from replacing people, AI—when applied correctly—can strengthen essential skills such as empathy, problem-solving, and creativity.

Even the most familiar users of this technology acknowledge that it can enrich social relationships and improve the quality of human interactions.

Beyond task automation, the true potential of AI lies in freeing individuals to focus on strategic, innovative, and creative activities.

Artificial intelligence allows for processing large volumes of data, identifying patterns, and detecting opportunities swiftly.

This facilitates quick, evidence-based decision-making and enables the faster iteration of products and services.

However, these benefits do not depend solely on technology.

They require creativity, innovation, and strategic vision from human teams to achieve real transformation in management.

This transformation is key to ensuring the resilience and sustainability of organizations in a highly competitive environment.

New Ways of Leading.

The study concludes that organizations that successfully foster environments of trust, strengthen human agency, and empower their teams will be better prepared to lead in this new technological era.

Patricia Patiño, AI & Data Leader at EY Colombia, states:

“In the era of artificial intelligence, leadership will not be measured solely by the adoption of technology, but by the ability to inspire trust, protect human autonomy, and transform innovation into a driver of sustainable growth.”
