Sony opens applications for its 2027 photography and filmmaking awards
Photographers and filmmakers from Latin America can now submit their work to two of the leading international awards dedicated to visual storytelling and audiovisual narrative.

Sony has opened entries for the 2027 editions of the Sony World Photography Awards and the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards, which introduce new categories and training opportunities for participants. Both initiatives are organized by Creo in collaboration with Sony and offer opportunities for exhibition, training, mentoring and prizes.
The photography awards reach their 20th edition.
In 2027, the Sony World Photography Awards will celebrate their 20th edition. The competition is free to enter and open to photographers of all levels. Over two decades, it has given thousands of photographers international visibility and helped advance their careers through global exposure.
The 2027 edition introduces changes to its main competitions. Series replaces the Professional designation, while Single Image replaces Open. New categories have also been added, including Stories within Series, which invites photographers to explore how personal, cultural and collective stories shape the world today, and Animal Portraits within Single Image.
The Student competition will have “Journeys” as its theme and invites participants to interpret the concept broadly through a series of 10 photographs.
The deadlines for the different competitions are January 12, 2027 for Series, January 5 for Single Image and Youth, and November 27, 2026 for Student.
A call for emerging audiovisual filmmakers.
Sony has also opened entries for the fifth edition of the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards, a program dedicated to discovering and supporting the next generation of audiovisual filmmakers. Entry is free and open to creators worldwide.
Finalists will travel to Los Angeles from June 7 to 10, 2027, to take part in a program of training, networking and mentoring with Sony Pictures executives and specialists. The experience will conclude with the awards ceremony on June 10.
Participants can submit short films until December 15, 2026, in six categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Immersive, Animation, Student and Future Format.
The 2027 edition will also once again award the Sustainability Prize, created by Creo and Sony to recognize a short film that creatively communicates how the environment, accessibility, diversity, equity and inclusion can inspire collective action toward a positive future for the planet.

The call invites photographers, filmmakers and students from the region to submit their work to a global audience and seek new opportunities for their creative careers.
Two international platforms for photography and film.
The Sony World Photography Awards, produced by Creo through the World Photography Organisation, are a free-to-enter competition that is reaching its 20th edition and offers exhibition opportunities for established artists and emerging talent. The work of winning and finalist photographers is also presented in an annual exhibition at Somerset House in London.
The Sony Future Filmmaker Awards, meanwhile, are an annual short-film program created by Creo and sponsored by Sony. Winners have the opportunity to travel to Los Angeles and visit Sony Pictures Studios, where they gain access to industry specialists. The program also includes cash prizes and Sony digital imaging equipment.
Creo, an organization founded in 2007 under the name World Photography Organisation, develops events and programs related to photography, film and contemporary art. Its projects include the Sony World Photography Awards, the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards, PHOTOFAIRS and Photo London.
